This unusual ringing site is in Barrow-in-Furness, in Cumbria. It is owned by Spirit Energy used to be an operational gas terminal, but is now no longer being used as a gas storage facility, and at some point, will be redeveloped. The high security fences and lack of human distance provides protection from predators, and makes an idea breeding site for large gulls. There are approximately 400 pairs of large gulls using the site. The presence of two lesser black-backed gulls ringed as adults on Walney being present at the colony suggests that some individuals have relocated from the nearby Walney colony.
